Area of Research: AfroSonic cultures across the African diaspora Description: The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) is a vibrant department that brings together a wealth of artistic and academic activity under one umbrella. The department provides opportunities for scholars who want to explore a variety of artistic and academic endeavours by focusing on a single discipline, or following a number of interdisciplinary offerings that are unique to the campus. UTSC is located in the eastern border of the city of Toronto, surrounded by the lushness and beauty of one of Ontario’s environmental treasures, the Rouge National Urban Park. We seek a dynamic emerging scholar, with PhD in hand, to take up the position of Postdoctoral Fellow in our department, with a focus on music and music cultures from within a Black Studies framework. We welcome applicants from a variety of traditional disciplines such as Sociology, Geography, Musicology, English Literature, Philosophy as well as interdisciplinary scholars working across a number of fields such as, but not limited to Cultural Studies, the Digital Humanities, Theatre & Performance Studies, Gender Studies or Caribbean Studies. The Department of Arts, Culture and Media will offer the successful candidate access to office space, a plethora of professional development opportunities and access to the university’s multiple and vast library collections. Applicants must provide evidence of excellence through their research proposal and CV, and a demonstrated capacity for research excellence based on the quality of their research contributions. Applicants must also demonstrate alignment and mutual benefits between the research proposal and the research goals of the supervisor/unit/department, as well as the mission of the university.
