On Jan. 6, 2022 threatening racist language was scrawled on a cork board in the first building in the CUNY system to carry the name of an African American. Dr. Lloyd Delaney Hall. This building houses the SEEK (The Percy E. Sutton Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge ) program founded by Percy Sutton and legislated into existence by Shirley Chisholm with the support of David Dinkins in 1969. The scrawling of a swastika and the slogan "KKK Lives" on a cork board in this formerly safe space for Black, Brown, Jewish and BIPOC persons of all socio-economic and religious backgrounds has not oved the Queens College Administration to tangible demonstrative action. Despite numerous requests for improved safety protocols and a transparent investigation process, in the four weeks and two since the incident was first reported, the college has taken no action to protect the lives that were threatened or restore Delany to being considered a safe work environment. The faculty, staff and students who refer to Delaney as home, have decided to stay away from the building until safety protocols are put in place. Our absence from the building has not moved our administration to action. We have waited over a month for the QC Administration to take steps to protect us and investigate and are still waiting. Our lives remain under threat. Please stand with us by signing this petition in defense of our humanity and right to a secure workplace. Help us let the administration know that our lives, the lives of our students and the legacy of Dr. Lloyd Delany matter.
