Claire Oberon Garcia

Professor of English - Colorado College, Colorado Historian 

Claire Oberon Garcia, is an interdisciplinary scholar appointed in the English Department at Colorado College, a small liberal arts institution. Her writing has appeared in a variety of venues, both academic and non-academic, and her courses are usually cross-listed with at least two other departments and programs, including Comparative Literature, French, Feminist and Gender Studies, and Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies. She has broad administrative experience that includes board leadership for non-profit organizations such as the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival as well as her service as the director of the Colorado College Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies program at critical moments in its development and as well as a stint of Dean of Faculty and Acting Provost at Colorado College. Claire has long been a strong and effective advocate for the relevance of the humanities and the liberal arts for the 20th century. She is the Principal Investigator for a $1.2 million Mellon Grant awarded to Colorado College to further Humanities and Social Justice projects.
