Flavio Gomes
Dr. Flavio Gomes is Associate Professor of the Institute of History at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with a PhD in Social History (1997), from Unicamp. He is also a professor in the graduate programs in Archaeology (National / UFRJ Museum), Comparative History (UFRJ) and History (Federal University of Bahia). These extensive contacts throughout Brazilian academia will help establish opportunities for ASWAD and its scholars to develop linkages with Brazil, our first international conference site. He has published books and articles in the area of colonial and post-colonial studies, borders and black peasantry, and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Dr. Gomes is currently researching the material culture of slavery and post-emancipation in Brazil, as well as projects in comparative perspective Brazil and French Guiana. He is coordinator of the Atlantic History Studies Laboratory of colonial and post-colonial (Leha) UFRJ.
